Topslip Adventure:

We started our trip from Coimbatore at 6 am on 04/07/2009. We were eight of us in Sumo. It was drizzling, our drive through mist filled Eachanari road was enchanting, it was a wonderful climate. We reached Topslip, there was no rain but cloudy and a very pleasant climate. Our guide Mr. Balasubramani ( Subramani) came to receive us. We introduced Subramnai to our Team Members. Oh! I have not introduced you to my team members, they are Sakir, Diju, Sasi, Prabahakar, Venkat, Shabeer Bhai, Satish and Myself (R.Mohammed Saleem) . Our first Wildlife sighting was a lone Barking Deer near the road, as soon as we stopped near it to take a Photo it disappeared into the forest.

We had Dosai for breakfast at Topslip Canteen and then started our trip to the wild western ghats. The path was filled with beautiful birds like to Oriole, brown headed Barbet, Peacock, Eagle, Woodpecker and also the Giant Malabar squirrel.

We made a short trek to the Chinnar Elephant camp, we had lunch there which we had brought alongwith us, after lunch we came to know that the leeches were having lunch of us. We desperately checked our clothing for any more leeches. We halted there till the rains stopped then trekked back to our Sumo. We then procedded to Varagaliar on the way we saw some Bisons, Big Sambar Deers and also Nilgiri Langur, spent our night at the Varagaliar Forest Guest House - sans electricity. It is a wonderful place, special permission has to be obtained to reach this place. The rains have turned this place green all around. Bisons and Sambar deers were grazing near the guest house.

We departed at 6 in the morning and on our way back we visited the Kolikamuthi Elephant Camp, saw the King of Kumkis - Kaleem as he was fed his breakfast. We stayed there for a moment had black tea with the Malasar Tribes and proceeded to Mt. Stuart Guest house which was built in the late 1886 and now renovated by the Forest Department in 1993. It is a well maintained guest house.

Having covered the major spots of Topslip range we returned back to Coimbatore with all the wonderful memories of the Green Western Ghats.
